Police in Kebbi State have killed one suspected bandit and arrested two others in Kurgeye, Riba and Kanya villages in the Danko/Wasagu local government area of the state.
In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Birnin Kebbi by the spokesman of the State Police Command, SP Nafi’u Abubakar he stated that at about 1.30 pm, armed bandits in their large number on motorcycles, invaded Kurgeye village, Danko/Wasagu LGA of Kebbi State, and kidnapped one Malami Danladi along with his son named Bello Danladi. On receipt of the report, a team of 36 PMF personnel on special duty, in collaboration with a vigilante group, swiftly responded and gave them a hot chase, which resulted in an exchange of fire. In the process, one of the bandits was gunned down, one AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine and one Bajaj motorcycle were recovered, and they arrested one Isiya Alhaji Usman and Yunusa Yusuf, all of Auda village in Danko/Wasagu LGA, for being suspected to be the bandits terrorising the area. When searched, one K2 rifle and one fabricated AK-47 rifle with three magazines and 66 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from them.
Commissioner of police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, commended their gallant performances and urged them to sustain the tempo and improve on it.
The CP equally charged the police personnel and other security agencies operating in the area to intensify synergy among them and decisively deal with the bandits and other unscrupulous elements for socio-economic activities to thrive in the state.
He directed them to transfer the arrested suspects and exhibits to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation and prosecution accordingly.
