Kebbi State government has expended N179 million on procurement of water treatment chemicals for the improvement of water supply in Birnin Kebbi, Argungu, Yauri and Zuru local government areas of the state.
The chief press secretary to the governor, Ahmed Idris, indicated this in a statement yesterday in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
Idris said the commissioner for water resources and rural development, Alhaji Bello Abdullahi-Kaoje, disclosed the development when he inspected the chemicals at Dukku Water Works in Birnin Kebbi metropolis.
Abdullahi-Kaoje said the items included 220 tonnes of aluminum sulphate, 110 tonnes of lime and small drums of chlorine.
He said the water treatment chemicals would be distributed to Birni Kebbi, Argungu, Yauri and Zuru Water Works for effective water supply.
The commissioner also announced that arrangements have been concluded for the provision of a dedicated electricity line for effective electricity supply in Dukku Water Works.
