This was disclosed by the university’s public relations officer, Mustapha Mansur Ango, on behalf of the vice chancellor during an interview with journalists in Birnin Kebbi.

According to Ango, when the management received reports about the disease in which six students were affected and later died, emergency measures were taken against the spread.

He said the management reported the case to the state government through the Ministry of Health, constituted a committee of stakeholders on how to address the situation, formed an outbreak investigation committee to ascertain the actual disease as well as enhanced sanitation and awareness campaigns on the dangers of sleeping in an overcrowded environment without crossed ventilation.

The PRO added that the university’s clinic also served as a centre where the affected victims were admitted and diagnosed by a team of medical personnel.
