Nasarawa State governor, Engr Abdullahi Sule has called for expedited action on cases of those awaiting trial at the Keffi Medium Correctional Centre, Nasarawa State.
Governor Sule made the call when he visited the facility on Wednesday following a jail break where 16 inmates escaped.
Our correspondent gathered that most of the inmates awaiting trial in the facility were those whose cases were before the courts in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The governor noted that expediting their trial would further go a long way to decongesting the centre.
Governor Sule charged the inmates to be of good behavior and law abiding.
He promised that the state government will collaborate with relevant bodies to fast-track trials of accused persons to reduce congestion in the facility.
He also expressed worries over the condition of some inmates, noting that most of them sat on the bare floor.
Sule therefore directed that 500 mattresses be supplied to the centre by the state government to improve their living conditions.
He commended officers and men of the Service as well as other security agencies for the re-arrest of some of the escapees.
He also charged citizens in the state to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons to security agencies.
