Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has called for expeditious action on cases awaiting trial at the Keffi Medium Correctional Centre.
Governor Sule made the call when he visited the facility on Wednesday, following a jailbreak where 16 inmates escaped.
Our correspondent gathered that most of the inmates awaiting trial in the facility are those whose cases were before the courts in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The governor noted that expediting the trial of their cases would go a long way to decongesting the centre.
The Governor promised that the state government would collaborate with relevant bodies to fast-track trials of accused persons to reduce congestion in the facility.
He expressed worries over the condition of some inmates, noting that most of them sat on the bare floor.
Therefore, he directed that the state government supply 500 mattresses to the centre to improve its living conditions.
He commended officers, men of the service, and other security agencies for the re-arrest of some of the escapees.
