President of Kenya, William Ruto, has conferred the National Hero of Peace Medal on Nigerian diplomat, Ambassador Jonathan Ojadah, in recognition of his contributions to peacebuilding and international cooperation across Africa.
The honour was presented at a ceremony in Nairobi, where Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye joined Ruto in a joint presentation seen as a symbol of continental unity and a shared commitment to diplomacy and conflict resolution.
According to a statement from the State House in Nairobi, the award acknowledges Ojadah’s role in promoting peaceful coexistence, fostering cross-border partnerships, and advancing development initiatives within and beyond Africa.
The event, which drew dignitaries and diplomatic stakeholders, has attracted attention across media platforms, highlighting what observers described as a significant moment for Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement on the continent.
Ojadah, who holds the title of Grand Commander of Peace (GCOP), has participated in several international engagements involving institutions such as the European Union, African Union, and the United Nations. His work spans social justice advocacy, climate action, and the promotion of sustainable development goals.
A native of Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, the diplomat has also been involved in humanitarian initiatives, including the establishment of the Arise O Nigeria Empowerment Initiative, a non-governmental organisation focused on supporting vulnerable groups.
He currently serves as Global President and Chairman of the Supreme Council of the United International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC) and has held diplomatic roles with multilateral organisations.
The statement further noted that a commemorative dinner is scheduled for October 24, 2025, in Nairobi, to celebrate the recognition, with notable personalities expected to attend.
Ojadah has received several local and international awards for leadership and peacebuilding, reflecting his involvement in global advocacy and development efforts.
