The kidnappers that killed Olukoro of Koro-Ekiti in Ekiti local government area of Kwara State, Oba Segun Aremu, last Thursday, have reduced the N100m ransom placed on his abducted wife and one other person to N40m.
The Transition Implementation Committee chairman of Ekiti local government area, Chief Kehinde Bayode, confirmed this to LEADERSHIP on Sunday.
“The kidnappers had got in touch with the family demanding for N100 million ransom, which has now been reduced to N40million. We are still negotiating with them and right now, I’m on my way to Koro to get the latest information on the negotiation. We will continue to brief you as the situation unfolds and we will keep you posted,” Bayode told our correspondent.
The kidnappers had last Friday reached out to the monarch’s family for payment of N100million ransom for the release of the two abductees.
The TIC chairman also disclosed that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.
He said, “the arrested suspect was found with foreign currency and I had got in touch with the DPO in the area not to release the suspect.”
However, the spokesperson of Kwara State Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi Adetoun, did not confirm the arrest of any suspect.
The PPRO said that no arrest had been made in connection with the incident, adding that, “the CP has deployed tactical team to Koro Ekiti to fish out the perpetrators. Policemen are working with other security agencies to free those that were abducted during the kidnapping incident. No arrest has been made yet. We are going to keep you abreast of the development as it unfolds.”
LEADERSHIP reports that gunmen had stormed the palace of the Olukoro of Koro-Ekiti in Kwara State on Thursday night and killed the monarch and thereafter kidnapped his wife and one other person.
