National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has called on residents of Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State to unite against insecurity plaguing the area and other parts of the state.

He urged residents to participate in strengthening security measures in their communities to ensure everyone remains peaceful and free from fear.

This followed last week’s gunfire exchange between bandits in Wanka community in Kanam and security personnel, leading to the death of over 20 soldiers and vigilantes.

Condoling the victims of the attack at the Palace of the Emir of Kanam, Alh. Muhammadu Mu’azu Muhammadu, Prof Yilwatda extended his deepest sympathies to the affected families and the entire emirate, standing in solidarity during this difficult period.

He said at a time like this, his thoughts were firmly with the affected families, and he stood in solidarity with the entire Emirate, praying for comfort for those who suffered losses and for the swift restoration of peace, unity, and stability across Kanam.

According to Yilwatda, “what remains most inspiring is the unwavering courage, unity, and resilience demonstrated by the people of Kanam in the face of adversity, noting that, “These qualities are a powerful reminder that even in difficult moments, hope and collective determination can prevail. It is therefore incumbent on all of us, leaders and citizens alike, to renew our commitment to fostering peace, strengthening security, and building a future where every community can thrive without fear.”

While condoling with the families of the victims, Yilwatda also provided support to those directly impacted.

He highlighted the occasion as a moment to reflect on the spiritual significance of the Sallah season while celebrating the enduring strength of the Kanam people.
