Britain’s King Charles III and Queen Camilla have arrived in the United States for a four-day state visit aimed at reinforcing diplomatic ties between the two long-standing allies, amid heightened global tensions and recent security concerns.

The royal couple touched down at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Monday, marking the first state visit by a British monarch to the US in nearly two decades and the most significant overseas engagement of Charles’ reign so far.

They were received by senior US and British officials, alongside military families, in a ceremonial welcome that underscored the enduring relationship between London and Washington.

The visit coincides with the 250th anniversary of the United States’ Declaration of Independence and is widely seen as a strategic effort to strengthen the so-called “special relationship” between both nations.

However, the trip came at a delicate time, with strains in US-UK relations over foreign policy differences, particularly around ongoing geopolitical conflicts.

Security has also been tightened following a recent shooting incident at a White House Correspondents’ Dinner event, which prompted a review of arrangements ahead of the royal visit.

Despite these concerns, Buckingham Palace confirmed the visit would proceed as planned.

During their stay, King Charles is expected to meet US President Donald Trump privately at the White House, deliver an address to a joint session of Congress, and attend a state dinner.

The itinerary also includes a visit to the September 11 Memorial in New York and engagements focused on environmental conservation in Virginia, issues closely associated with the monarch’s long-standing advocacy.
