The Kogi State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed the immediate past chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, as a commissioner in the State Executive Council.
The confirmation followed a formal request by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, who, in a letter to the Assembly, nominated Bello for the position and urged lawmakers to carry out the necessary screening in line with constitutional provisions.
During plenary, the House, sitting as the Committee of the Whole, examined the nominee and subsequently approved his appointment. Bello, popularly known as “Dollar,” was thereafter confirmed as commissioner.
Lawmakers used the occasion to commend the former APC chairman for his leadership role, noting his contributions to the party’s sustained electoral successes in the state.
They expressed confidence that Bello would replicate his track record in the executive arm, adding that his experience would strengthen governance and enhance service delivery for the people of Kogi State.
Speaking after his clearance by the Assembly, Hon. Abdullahi Bello, assured that his appointment will bring more gains for local government workers across the State.
Bello, who would be taking over at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, thanked Governor Ododo for the appointment and expressed optimism that he would add value to local government administration by adhering to the template already in place.
“Anything that will advance the welfare of local government workers is what I will follow and that remains my priority,” the commissioner said.
On the forthcoming elections, the former APC State chairman said there is no viable opposition to the APC in Kogi State.
He attributed the strength of the APC in the state and nationwide to the performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, noting that the President “has been able to work to win the hearts of Nigerians.”
“The narrative now is that there is no viable opposition in Kogi State,” Bello said.
“Kogi is taking a cue from President Tinubu. The Chief Servant of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, is working hard to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people by following the footsteps of Mr President.”
He added that 2027 “will be a walkover for the APC in Kogi State,” saying the party will win every election in the state with all its candidates emerging victorious.
