Kogi Assembly To Partner Counterparts On Devt

Kogi State House of Assembly has promised to strengthen its partnership with other Houses of Assembly in Nigeria through peer-review to ensure stronger collaboration for national development.

Speaker of the Kogi Assembly Rt Hon Umar Aliyu Yusuf made the promise in an address he delivered when he led other members of the state legislature on a familiarisation visit to the Speaker of Niger State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Abdulmalikk Mohammed Sarkin-Daji in Minna. 

According to Rt Hon Yusuf, collaboration is necessary to ensure unity among the legislative arm to ensure the country’s overall development through lawmaking. 

While thanking the speaker of Niger State Assembly for the hospitality, he promised to reciprocate whenever they received Rt Hon Sarkin-Daji in Kogi State. 

Kogi Assembly Speaker, who described the Niger State Assembly Speaker as a brother, further applauded him for his show of courage within the Speakers’ Conference in Nigeria, noting that his people-centered position on matters resonate with his own policy as a lawmaker.

Rt Hon Yusuf thanked his colleagues in the Kogi State House of Assembly for the opportunity they have given him to serve and the support they have continued to show him, and described Kogi State legislature as made up of brothers and sisters of one unit – Kogi State. 

In his address, the member representing Lokoja/Kogi (Kotonkarfe) Federal Constituency, Hon Suleiman Danladi Aguye described their host as a man with likable personality and said he would not wait for Kogi State House of Assembly colleagues to also host the Niger Assembly Speaker in Kogi.

Other speakers, including members representing Ajaokuta and Kogi State constituencies, Honourable Jibril Abu and Idris Aliyu, both thanked their host, noting that they felt at home in Niger since their arrival. 

Reacting to their addresses, the Speaker of Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji thanked his guests and described his Kogi Assembly colleague as a brother with who he shares similar attributes.

He described Rt Hon Yusuf as a unifier, given the number of legislators he saw with him on the visit, and the nature of that arm of government, and then urged him to always carry his colleagues along in all scheme of things.

The Niger Assembly Speaker, who appealed to Kogi Assembly members to give their support to their speaker said he has seen that he has their best interest at heart.

Also on the entourage of the Kogi Assembly Speaker were members representing Lokoja I and Ofu State constituencies; Hon Bin-Ebaiya Shehu Tijjani and Honourable Seidu Amodu, among others.
