Youths in Kogi East have cautioned Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo against backing any alleged third-term agenda in the senatorial district, saying such a move could threaten the electoral fortunes of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The warning was issued during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Anyigba, Kogi State, where the group accused some politicians of attempting to impose candidates disconnected from the grassroots.

President of Kogi East Youth Stakeholders, Ahmed Labaran, said recycling leaders who are allegedly inaccessible and not people-oriented would weaken the party’s support base in the district.

He urged Ododo to ensure a transparent and credible primary process that would allow party members and the people to freely choose their preferred candidate.

Labaran also cautioned against external influence in Kogi politics, insisting that loyal party members who had contributed to the growth of the APC should be given equal opportunity to contest.

“The people should decide who represents them, not individuals seeking to impose candidates from outside the state,” he said.

Also speaking, leader of the FAWWAS for Men Organisation, Okeme Muhammad, said the party should support committed members who understand the needs of the people and have remained loyal to the APC structure.

The stakeholders warned that any attempt to undermine internal democracy or impose unpopular candidates could affect the APC’s chances in Kogi East.
