Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to partnering with the Federal College of Education, Okene, to enhance its growth and development.
Governor Ododo gave the assurance when he received members of the College’s Governing Council and Management at the Government House in Lokoja. He described the collaboration as vital to advancing education and student welfare in the state.
The college’s provost, Ibrahim Ismaila Mosimabale, said the visit was primarily to express appreciation to the governor and to explore ways to strengthen the institution through strategic engagement. This position was also echoed by a council representative, Salome Aniama.
Mosimabale commended the governor on his achievements in infrastructure, education, security, and welfare, describing him as a calm and purposeful leader.
Highlighting the institution’s key needs, the provost revealed that the college had secured the hosting rights for the Colleges of Education Games Association (NICEGA), a development that requires significant funding and logistical support.
He said efforts to secure intervention from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) had yet to yield results and appealed to the governor to help facilitate approvals and release of funds.
Other requests presented to the governor included the stepping down of a 33KVA power line to ensure a stable electricity supply, provision of buses for transportation, tractors for agricultural training, tax relief for staff, funding for perimeter fencing with CCTV installation, and support for sports infrastructure through the National Sports Commission.
In his response, Governor Ododo congratulated the provost on his appointment and encouraged inclusive leadership. He assured the delegation of the state government’s readiness to support the institution and improve learning conditions for students.
The governor pledged to follow up with the Federal Ministry of Power on the electricity project and promised to present requests for buses and tractors to the State Executive Council. He also indicated that tax-related requests would be reviewed in consultation with relevant experts.
