Kogi Poly Holds Maiden Orientation For Mass Communication Students

....Charges them on Effective use of time

Students of Mass Communication Department of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja have been charged on effective use of time in order to achieve success in their academic endeavors.

The charge was given at the maiden orientation exercise of the department held on Tuesday 20th June, 2023 at the Hall ‘M’ of the Main Campus, Lokoja.

Keynote Speakers, Mr. Joel Ebenezer, Mrs. Mamenoka Awodi and Dr. Monday Ayegba urged the students to make judicious use of opportunities provided by the institution to plan their daily activities as its relate with lectures and studying.

 

Reawakening the consciousness of the students, the resource persons reiterated the need for students to be of good conduct at all times and use the students’ handbook as guide for appropriate channel of communication at any point of grievances and demands.

The School Examination Officer Mrs. Anita Tolu Olugbemi gave a summary of how students’ scores and grades are processed, adding that the introduction of ICT has helped in timely release of results without hindrance from any lecturers.

 

The Exam Officer further advised the students to study well, shun negative peer pressure and be obedient to establish rules and regulations and be prayerful towards achieving good grades in order to compete globally.

 

The pioneer Head, Department of Mass Communication, Mr. Tahiru Nuhu Momoh who commended the staff and students of the department for their cooperation so far highlighted the role of Mass Communication in contemporary society and its role in shaping public opinion and discourse especially in the modern day Nigeria.

 

Mr. Momoh who also appreciated the Dean and entire members of School of General and Communication Studies for their supports also urged the students to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the new department and to strive for excellence in their studies.

 

Earlier, the Dean, School of General and Communication Studies, Mrs. Ardeline Lola Balagbogbo generously poured encomiums on the Rector, Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman for his vision of introducing age long dream of establishing department of Mass Communication and the appointment of a competent and experienced professionals for effective running of the department.

 

Mrs. Balagbogbo further emphasized the importance of the course in contemporary society, highlighting how it plays a crucial role in disseminating information and shaping public opinions in the expository writing world.

 

She urged the students to take their studies seriously and make the most use of the resources provided to them in the department and as well be well behaved, dutiful and dedicated to their studies.

 

In reaction, some of the students who spoke in turns expressed their appreciation on the maiden orientation exercise as it has exposed them to lots of things they don’t know about the course and the Polytechnic at large.

 

The said the exercise has left them with renewed optimism and enthusiasm towards their studies just as they promised to be of good conduct worthy enough as pioneer students of Mass Communication, Kogi State Polytechnic.
