Kogi Poly Suspends 7 Lecturers Over Alleged Sex-For-Marks, Illegal Handout Sales

The management of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has suspended seven lecturers over allegations bordering on sexual harassment and the unauthorised sale of handouts and textbooks, as it intensifies investigations into alleged sex-for-marks, cultism and other misconduct within the institution.

The polytechnic’s spokesperson, John Onimisi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Lokoja.

According to the statement, six lecturers were suspended on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, for the unauthorised sale of handouts and textbooks, while another lecturer was suspended over an allegation of sexual harassment.

“Six lecturers on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, were suspended by the management of the institution for the unauthorised sale of handouts and textbooks, while a lecturer was also suspended for alleged sexual harassment,” the statement read.

The suspensions come amid growing concerns over alleged sexual harassment, cult-related activities and other acts of indiscipline within the institution.

Sources familiar with developments in the polytechnic alleged that some lecturers demanded sexual favours or money from female students in exchange for passing grades, while cult activities had allegedly resurfaced on campus.

A source further claimed that disciplinary measures introduced by the institution’s previous administration had weakened, emboldening some erring staff and students.

The source also alleged that some female students who reported cases of sexual harassment received little institutional support and were instead subjected to intimidation.

There were also claims that cult groups had resumed nocturnal meetings on campus despite previous efforts to curb such activities.

Other allegations included the reintroduction of compulsory handout sales, relaxation of the institution’s dress code and weak enforcement of student identity card regulations, which the source said had contributed to declining discipline on campus.

Responding to the allegations, Onimisi said the polytechnic’s management was aware of the claims and had already commenced investigations through its disciplinary committee.

“The school management is aware of the allegations, and the disciplinary committee of the polytechnic is already investigating them. The outcome will be made available to journalists in due course,” he said.

He assured that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
