Executive chairman of Kogi State Science, Technical Education and Teaching Service Commission (STETSCOM), Mrs Cecilia Cook said religious studies and history would be reintroduced in the state’s secondary school curriculum as from 2022/2023 academic calendar.

Cook noted that religious studies and history teachers are to be employed in the ongoing recruitments in secondary schools.

She said this while speaking at the just concluded 2022 Mandatory Continuing Professional Training Programme of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), North Central Zone held in Lokoja.

According to her, the history of Nigeria might go into extinction as most young Nigerians currently know less or nothing about the background of the country, hence the reintroduction in Kogi Secondary School system.

According to her “History tells us where we have common origin like Ile-ife and Benin. This brings about ties which can lead to peace, unity and oneness”.

Mrs Cook explained that religious studies that teach about moral values and godly conduct are no longer compulsory subjects in schools, saying vices such as internet fraud and other immoral acts are as result of lack of religious teachings.

She said religious subjects like CRK and Islamic Studies are not supposed to be optional but compulsory in all schools as being done in the past, adding that these subjects teach our children to behave in a godly manner. She observed that today the fear of God is no longer there and people cannot move freely as kidnapping, corruption and social vices have taken over the country.
