A crafted scheme orchestrated by opposition elements in collusion with influential figures within the Kogi State Government has been exposed, aiming to destabilise the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Kogi West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to a statement signed by Usman Ozovehe
Member, Yahaya Bello/Ahmed Ododo Political family, the plot is designed to deceive the national leadership of our great party, poses a significant threat to the unity of the APC and the second-term agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the state.

“At the heart of this stratagem is the sudden and suspicious entry of a former Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Samuel Aro, into the APC senatorial race. Aro, who served in the Sixth Assembly, is a known protégé of Chief Tunde Ayeni, a billionaire businessman and prominent financier of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“The ultimate goal, is to secure the APC ticket for Aro under false pretenses, only for him to defect or work against the party’s presidential candidate in the general election.

“The incumbent Senator, Sunday Karimi, who has represented the zone with distinction and remains a steadfast supporter of President Tinubu, is the primary target of this political subterfuge.

“Having stepped on powerful toes in Lokoja by refusing to compromise his principles and consistently speaking truth to power, Senator Karimi is now facing a well-orchestrated challenge funded by opposition money.

“The plot is simple: install a mole within the APC to split the vote in Kogi West, a solidly pro-Tinubu district, thereby weakening the ruling party’s overall strength in the state.

“This scheme targets the very heart of our party’s support base in the Okun-Yoruba speaking local government areas, which voted overwhelmingly for President Tinubu in 2023.

“By engineering a faction within the APC, the plotters aim to water down our superiority in the district, ensuring that wasted votes exceed the margin required to win, thereby diminishing our ability to influence outcomes in the other two senatorial districts. It is a calculated move to trade a single seat for a broader destabilization of the APC in Kogi State.”The statement read.
