The Government of the Republic of Korea through its grant aid and technical cooperation agency, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has completed a 3-day intensive training program aimed at enhancing the eGovernment capacity of 100 government officials from Nasarawa State.

The training, which was held from Wednesday, is part of the Korean government’s ongoing effort to support Nigeria’s digital transformation and improve the effectiveness of public administration in the state and in Nigeria at large.

Speaking at the closing ceremony on the 27th, the KOICA Country Director Son Sungil highlighted the importance of digital skills in achieving sustainable development goals and improving governance structures in Nigeria.

“This training is part of KOICA’s broader commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development agenda by building the capacity of public sector officials in digital governance, ensuring the state is well-positioned to leverage technology for the benefit of its citizens”, the director stated.

The participants received in-depth training in core areas of e-Government principles, digital governance and strategies, tools to drive effective service delivery, data management, and cybersecurity. The training was designed to equip Nasarawa State officials with the necessary skills and knowledge to implement and manage digital systems that will drive transparency, efficiency, and innovation in government operations.

“KOICA remains committed to supporting Nigeria’s digital transformation journey – enhancing digital literacy, access and government transformation”.

The Nasarawa State Government represented by the Head of Service Barrister Abigail Waya expressed gratitude to the Korean government for its continued support and commitment to Nigeria’s development. She emphasized that the skills acquired during the training would be instrumental in driving Nasarawa State’s eGovernment initiatives and improving service delivery to the people.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Nasarawa State Information Technology & Digital Economy Agency (NASITDEA) Haruna Sani Sani informed that the training aligns to the State’s ICT policy which aims to improve public services, managerial effectiveness and to create a conducive environment for the rapid expansion of ICT networks and services.

During the program, dignitaries from Nasarawa State, the KOICA delegation and trainees visited the KOICA-UBEC Smart school project, a flagship educational project jointly funded by KOICA and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). The school, now fully operational with pupils enrolled, integrates cutting-edge digital infrastructure aimed at enhancing the quality of public basic education through technology-based learning. These two projects align perfectly as part of the ecosystem to digitize Nasarawa State’s governance and education systems, said Mr. Sungil.

Funded by KOICA, the 13 million USD project is a grant aid initiative running from 2020 to 2026 in close collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy (FMCIDE).

The project seeks to strengthen government digital transformation, improve digital literacy and promote access to government digital services through the development of the e-Government Master Plan v2.0, the Nigerian Government Enterprise Architecture, the launch of the Government Service Portal, and capacity-building programs for selected beneficiaries.
