The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared Dr Mohammed Kpautagi Mohammed as its governorship candidate for Niger State following its just-conducted party primaries.

Kpautagi is set to slug it out with the incumbent Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, who emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general elections .

LEADERSHIP reports that Kpautagi contested as a governorship aspirant in the 2023 primary that produced the incumbent governor, polling 15 votes. Announcing the results of the state governorship primary yesterday, the state returning officer and secretary of the ADC Primary Election Committee, Ibrahim Mohammed, said Kpautagi Mohammed scored a total of 67,924, while his counterpart, Alhaji Idris Usman, had 27,769 across the 25 local government areas of the state.

Also, during the official declaration of the primary election results for the candidates into the senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly seats, the returning officer announced at the IBB University Guest House in Minna that Alhaji Shehu Mohammed was elected as senatorial candidate for Niger North.

Also elected as a candidate for Niger East was Muktar Ahmed, who was unopposed, while in  Niger South, Baba Shehu Agaie, former deputy leader of the House of Representatives, was  declared the winner.
