Kun Khalifat FC Make U-turn, Returns To NPFL After Talks With League Board

Kun Khalifat Football Club has announced its return to the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) following what it described as “positive discussions” with the League Management Board, marking an end to its brief withdrawal from the top flight over grievances bordering on sanctions and treatment of the club.

The announcement was made in an official statement released and signed by the Chief Executive Officer of Kun Khalifat FC, Michael Amaefula.

In the statement, Amaefula said the club was “pleased to announce its return to the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) following positive discussions with the League Management Board,” adding that the club was happy to “put our differences behind us and focus on the beautiful game.”

Amaefula expressed delight at what he termed a constructive engagement with the NPFL leadership, noting that the club appreciated “the League Management Board’s willingness to listen and address our concerns.” According to him, the dialogue has paved the way for “a more collaborative and productive relationship moving forward.”

The club confirmed that it has now been reinstated and will resume its NPFL campaign with immediate effect. Kun Khalifat FC is billed to face Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan in its next league fixture, scheduled for Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri. The statement noted that the match would mark the club’s official return to competitive action in the league.

Calling on supporters to rally behind the team, the club urged fans in Owerri and beyond to “come out in their numbers to support the team,” describing the fixture as “a crucial match for us.” The statement added, “We need the backing of our supporters to get a positive result.”

Kun Khalifat FC also acknowledged the patience and loyalty of its supporters during what it described as a challenging period.

“The club acknowledges the patience and loyalty of our fans during this challenging period and appreciate your continued support,” the statement read, while assuring fans of its commitment to “entertaining the people of Owerri with exciting football” and delivering “an unforgettable experience for all who attend the games.”

The management further expressed optimism about a successful return to league action, saying it was “counting on the energy and passion of our supporters to drive the team forward.” The club added that ticket information and other match details would be communicated in due course.

LEADERSHIP reports that Kun Khalifat FC had earlier withdrawn from the NPFL during the ongoing season after raising concerns over what it described as unfair treatment and disproportionate sanctions handed down by the league authorities.

The decision followed disciplinary measures imposed on the club after missing a league fixture.
