The Kwankwasiyya Movement has urged the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to pursue available legal remedies over the omission of its Kano governorship candidate, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, and his running mate, Mustapha Rabi’u Kwankwaso, from the final list of candidates published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The movement called on the party’s leadership and legal team to urgently examine the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and take appropriate steps to seek rectification of the omission within the timeframe permitted by law.
In a statement issued on Sunday, October 11, 2026, the movement’s spokesperson, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, said the NDC should compile relevant documents to support its case before the commission.
“The Movement considers this provision an important legal avenue that the NDC leadership and the candidate’s legal representatives should urgently examine and invoke, where applicable, to seek the rectification of this omission within the time permitted by law,” the statement said.
The movement maintained that information available to it indicated that Gwarzo registered with the NDC within the stipulated period.
It added that it was not aware of any court case or judicial order identified as the basis for the omission, saying the circumstances made it necessary for INEC to explain its decision.
“These circumstances make it imperative for INEC to provide a clear explanation and ensure that the matter receives the attention it deserves,” the statement said.
The group also urged the party to assemble evidence of timely registration, nomination documents, submitted particulars and relevant acknowledgements, while asking its legal team to verify the applicable deadline.
It said it expected the commission to address the matter if records confirmed that the candidate had complied with the requirements and the omission was administrative.
“If the records confirm this position and the omission is administrative, we expect the Commission to address the matter transparently and take any corrective action permitted by law,” the statement added.
However, the movement said it would not prejudge INEC’s formal position or the outcome of any legal process, stressing the importance of evidence and due process.
It also appealed to members and supporters to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information and refrain from confrontation while the matter was being addressed.
“Our message to our supporters is simple: remain calm, remain law-abiding and remain confident in the lawful process,” the statement said.
