The national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and former presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has expressed confidence that his party will emerge victorious in the 2027 presidential election if the process is free and fair.

Speaking at the party’s 8th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the Bolingo Hotel in Abuja on Thursday, Kwankwaso criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of exacerbating poverty and insecurity in the country.

He stated that Nigerians were enduring unprecedented hardship, citing rising poverty levels, insecurity, and deteriorating infrastructure, particularly in the northern region.

He urged citizens to reflect on their struggles and give the NNPP a chance to lead the nation.

“We are all aware of the difficulties faced by the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). If there is a free and fair election in this country, the NNPP will defeat the APC, PDP, and other parties,” he asserted.

Kwankwaso acknowledged the internal challenges within the NNPP, dismissing claims made by some expelled members as mere distractions.

He reassured party members of his commitment to working with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.

Furthermore, he urged party leaders to remain united and focused on winning the 2027 elections.

“Let me assure you that we will continue to do everything necessary for the success of our party.

I appeal to our leaders across states, local governments, and wards to work harder so that the NNPP can win in 2027,” he added.

Addressing the gathering, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, represented by his deputy, Abdulsalam Aminu Gwarzo, highlighted the state government’s prioritisation of education and human capital development.

He noted that Kano had allocated 31% of its 2024 budget to education, the highest among Nigerian states, reinforcing the NNPP’s commitment to improving access to learning.

“We are proud of what is happening in Kano. Education for all is the slogan of our party, and no state has matched what we have achieved,” the governor stated.

The NEC meeting, attended by National Working Committee (NWC) members, lawmakers, commissioners, and party representatives from across the country, ratified the extension of caretaker committees in Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Gombe, and Taraba States.

It also approved the appointment of a caretaker committee for the Oyo State chapter for six months or until a substantive executive is established.
