The conferrment took place over the weekend during the convocation ceremony at the University campus.

In a statement on Sunday, Kwankwaso said that the honorary doctorate degree is well-deserved going by Rep Abubakar Kabir Bichi’s numerous interventions on education across Nigeria.

He added that as a federal lawmaker, Bichi has demonstrated commitment to improving the education sector in Nigeria.

He said that the honorary doctorate degree bestowed on the lawmaker is timely as it will serve as a form of encouragement to not only Abubakar Bichi, but also those who are willing to invest in education in the country.

Kwankwaso said, “This is not the first time Honourable Abubakar Kabir Bichi is being bestowed with an honorary doctorate degree. The Federal University Dutsin-ma, Katsina state had awarded a similar degree to him in acknowledgement of his outstanding contributions to the development of the engineering profession in Nigeria.

“I am not surprised that Abubakar Kabir Bichi is being awarded for the second time. His commitment to the development of the education sub-sector in Kano state especially Bich federal constituency and Nigeria as a whole is exceptional.

“He has sponsored quite a number of less privileged but exceptional youths on domestic and foreign scholarships. This is commendable.

“Rep. Bichi’s educational intervention began right from the grassroots. He has built and renovated several primary and secondary schools in many rural communities in Bichi federal constituency.

“Aside the scholarships he offers to promising youths, Hon Abubakar Kabir Bichi employed hundreds of temporary teachers, provided teaching and learning materials to students, provided tables, chairs and text books to several basic and post basic schools; and built a considerable number of structures to enable teaching and learning across Bichi federal constituency.

“Hon Abubakar Kabir Bichi also brought succor to thousands of Bichi youths as he pays for their Examination Council (NECO), West African Examination Council (WAEC) registration fees year in, year out.

“So far, thousands of Bichi indigenes are studying in various universities across the country. Last year, he sponsored a total of 21 Bichi indigenes to study various degrees in engineering and information technology in a Malaysian University.

Kwankwaso added that in a special gesture Bichi facilitated interventions to several higher institutions of learning within and outside his constituency with a view to improving the quality of education in Nigeria.

He added, ” Some of such interventions include the Multi-Million Naira Ring-road project at Northwest University, Kano, construction of hostels and lecture halls at the Federal University Dutsin-ma, Katsina state, among other projects.”
