A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has revealed that the national leader of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was open to joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and also believed the South should complete eight years in power.
Jibrin, who represents Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency of Kano State under the platform of the NNPP, disclosed this on Wednesday night during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’.
“As far as that (joining APC) is concerned, he (Kwankwaso) has always maintained that his doors are open, our doors are open for discussions. Everything is a possibility,” the lawmaker said.
“I actually believe that the South should finish the remaining four years,” he added.
Jibrin dismissed claims that the North has been shortchanged, stressing that the region has held power longer than the South. According to him, the North must begin to “tell itself the truth” and stop working against its own leaders.
His comments came amid growing debates over zoning and coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general election, with an alliance involving Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Dino Melaye and other political figures going under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform as an umbrella for the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, just last week, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) announced it had zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.
Recall that in the 2023 presidential election, Bola Tinubu (APC) won with 8,794,726 votes, followed by Atiku Abubakar (PDP) with 6,984,520 and Peter Obi (Labour Party) with 6,101,533. Kwankwaso, despite dominating Kano State, came distant fourth with 1,496,687 votes.
