The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, has said his seven years in the state House of Assembly, including his tenure as Speaker, have prepared him for the demands of governing the state.
Danladi-Salihu stated this on Friday in Ilorin at the News Keg, a political engagement platform organised by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council.
He said his experience in the legislature, particularly his participation in the state’s budget and appropriation processes, had given him a practical understanding of Kwara’s development priorities, resource allocation and governance structure.
The APC candidate argued that the major infrastructure projects executed under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq emerged from appropriation processes in which the legislature played a critical role.
“Appropriation process is a key ingredient in governance, and I can attest that all the landmark projects of Governor AbdulRazaq emerged from this process,” he said.
Danladi-Salihu maintained that his years in the Assembly had exposed him to the financial and developmental needs of the state, as well as the workings of government across sectors.
He also said his legislative career had taken him across Kwara, giving him first-hand knowledge of the challenges facing communities across the state.
“There is hardly any ward in Kwara that I have not been to. I am a local boy. My interest is in all our local areas, and I intend to touch all these places,” he said.
On grassroots development, the candidate cited interventions in his Ilesha/Gwanara constituency in Baruten Local Government Area, including the installation of more than 210 boreholes and the facilitation of road infrastructure with support from the state government.
He further disclosed that his office facilitated the training of 300 vigilantes in partnership with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), citing the area’s proximity to the international border as a major security concern.
Danladi-Salihu described his governorship ticket as a collective project for the people of Kwara, rather than a personal ambition.
He was accompanied to the engagement by his running mate, Hon. Seun Oguniyi Adato, who highlighted his private-sector background and described his partnership with Danladi-Salihu as one built on productive synergy.
