Kwara Gov’t Moves To End Open Defecation

The Kwara State Government has disclosed that efforts were being intensified towards eradicating open defecation across the state.

Commissioner for Water Resources in the state, Hon. Usman Lade stated this on Wednesday in Ilorin, the state capital.

Lade emphasised this during a meeting with the delegation from the National Council on Sanitation and Task Group of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Abuja.

He said the Kwara State Government is making every possible effort to ensure that the entire state is declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) soon.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in his ministry, Mrs Christiana Asonibare, informed the delegation that Oke-Ero local government area of the state has attained open defecation free status.

Earlier, General Manager of the State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), Mr. Oladipo Adewumi, assured the delegation that Oke-Ero local government would be certified as Open Defecation Free (ODF), noting that the state government had made concerted efforts to achieve ODF status in the area and by extension, the entire state.

The head of the delegation, Mr. Dada Joseph, said that federal government was making effort to put an end to open defecation in all the states of the federation.

Joseph explained that the purpose of the visit to the state was to validate Oke-Ero local government area for ODF status.
