The President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, yesterday declared Kwara State fully ready to host national and international sporting events following his inspection of the newly renovated Indoor Sports Hall, Ilorin.
Orbih made the declaration after a tour of the facility led by the director of Sports, Kwara State Sports Commission, Ibrahim Bako, alongside the technical director of BFN, Tunde Kazeem, former commissioner for Sports, Hameed Adio, and other key stakeholders.
Impressed by the upgrade, the BFN President described the Indoor Sports Hall as one of the best rehabilitated sports facilities anywhere in the world, noting that it meets all the fundamental requirements for hosting elite badminton and other indoor sporting competitions.
Orbih added that the renovation is a clear testament to the Kwara State government’s commitment to sports development, positioning the state as a prime destination for major sporting events.
“What we have seen here today is impressive. The hall is well renovated, spacious, and competition-ready. From every indication, Kwara State is prepared to host both national and international events,” Orbih said.
Speaking during the inspection, the state ‘s director of Sports, Ibrahim Bako reaffirmed the government’s resolve to sustain sports development across the state.
He assured stakeholders of continuous support for sports federations and emphasised that the facility would be properly maintained and effectively utilised.
Bako explained that the renovation aligns with the state government’s broader agenda of reviving sports infrastructure and creating a conducive environment for athletes to train, compete, and excel.
Former International athlete and sports administrator, Hameed Adio, also lauded the state government for prioritising sports infrastructure, describing the facility as a major boost to sports growth in the state and evidence of purposeful leadership. Adio urged sports federations nationwide to take advantage of the facility for competitions, training camps, and development programmes.
