The state’s commissioner for Social Development, Hon. Afolashade Opeyemi announced this during a meeting with a Non Governmental Organisation – De-Pals Foundation in Ilorin, the state capital.

She also announced the resolve of the state government to partner with NGOs in its quest to ensure efficient social service delivery to the elderly people across the state.

Opeyemi noted that while there are various laws protecting women from gender-based violence and abuse, less attention has been given to the elderly as regards care, conflict and personal abuse.

“Your visit is very crucial and tends to promote social welfare for the aged ones. Truly, much has not been done with regards to the welfare of the aged ones, but the good news is that, this administration is very much passionate about the well-being of the entire citizens of the state. We will therefore deepen our efforts towards the domestication of the same act into law, at the State level, as obtainable at the Federal,” she added.

She commended De-Pals Foundation, for its services to humanity, urging the members of the foundation not to back down in their efforts at making life comfortable for the elderly.
