Kwara State government has organised a training programme for additional 100 extension agents and farmers on small ruminant production, and crop residue processing for improved utilisation by ruminants.
The government also used the event to flag off the distribution of crop residue crushers and pelleting machines to livestock farmers in the state.
The event which was organised by the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) coordination office, took place at the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM), Ilorin.
At the event, Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, restated the commitment of his administration to invest in vital infrastructure and equipment in the livestock sector.
Represented by the commissioner for agriculture and rural development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas, the governor said the livestock sector faces numerous challenges, which include climate change, disease outbreak, and inadequate access to resources and market.
