Nigeria Professional Football League side, Kwara United, have unveiled Coach Azeez Audu Mohammed as their new technical adviser.
This followed the expiration of the former technical adviser, Abdullahi Usman Biffo’s contract. Biffo was in charge of the club for three seasons.
While unveiling the former Shabab Nasir Football Club of Sudan handler at the club’s secretariat in Ilorin, yesterday, ahead of the team’s departure for the ValueJet Pre-season tournament in Ikenne, the club chairman, Kumbi Titiloye said that the contract is for a year.
“The board of the club decided to engage Coach Azeez because of what we have seen him do, and what he is capable of doing, especially in line with the philosophy of the club,” Titiloye said.
He said that the team will give the new technical adviser and his lieutenants all the necessary support in the CAF Confederation Cup competition, as well as other competitions this season.
He commended the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Sports Commission, supporters and other stakeholders for their support for the club.
In his reaction after signing the dotted lines, Coach Azeez, who also coached six other clubs in Sudan between 2012 and 2021, said his target was to surpass the records set by the immediate past handler of the club.
Kwara United Football Club had a good run in two consecutive seasons, ending the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 seasons in fourth positions, and ending up earning a CAF Confederation Cup ticket at the end of the just concluded season.
He expressed satisfaction with the consideration and pledged to work hard to build on the feat already attained, adding that he was not unaware of the challenges, including, but not limited to the participation in the 2022/2023 CAF Confederation Cup competition.
The former Katsina United Football Club coach joined Kwara United with 12 matches to end the just concluded 2021/2022 NPFL season as a stop-gap coach, when Biffo left Nigeria for the US on health grounds.
