‘Kwara Working Hard To Combat Illegal Miners’

The Kwara State commissioner for solid minerals development in the state, Abdulquawiy Olododo, has declared that the state government has taken strong measures to tackle the menace of illegal mining.
Olododo, who also oversees the ministry of works in the state, spoke during the opening of the National Council on Mining and Minerals Resources Development (NCMMRD).

He said, “As part of the state government’s efforts, we are collaborating with security agencies and federal authorities to significantly reduce illegal mining activities.

“We aim to organise miners into cooperatives to ensure adherence to government policies. Those not complying will face consequences. Illegal mining activities have dropped significantly due to our collaboration with the security agencies like the NSCDC, the police and the EFCC. We won’t tolerate illegal activities; miners must follow proper channels to obtain licences and adhere to regulations.”

He further noted that the ongoing conference was important to look at the issues affecting the minerals industry and formulate resolutions that align with the country’s current realities.

Olododo noted the country’s longtime dependence on oil and said the abundance of solid minerals means that it is the means to the country’s future economic wellbeing. He called for synergy between the state and federal government in solid mineral administration.
