The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, on the establishment of a new academic programme – National Diploma (ND) in Environmental Health.
The initiative represents a major step toward building capacity in the environmental sector by equipping young Nigerians with the technical skills and practical knowledge needed for effective environmental health management.
Speaking at the brief ceremony, the general manager of KWEPA, Hon. Jide Aina, described the partnership as a strategic efforts towards training a new generation of environmental health officers who will tackle critical issues such as waste management, pollution control, and environmental sustainability.
He restated KWEPA’s commitment to providing technical support, mentorship, and hands-on field experience to ensure students gain maximum benefit from the programme.
The rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Dr Abdul Jimoh Muhammed, represented by Engr. Kudabo Ajeigbe, praised KWEPA for its forward thinking approach to environmental health education.
He assured that the polytechnic is fully prepared to provide the academic structure, qualified faculty, and a conducive learning environment required for the successful delivery of the programme.
Muhammed said that the curriculum will integrate both the theoretical and practical components to produce well-rounded graduates who will become environmental health advocates within and beyond Kwara State.
