Labour leaders have blamed the country’s lingering insecurity challenge on corruption, tribalism and the federal government’s weak political will to take drastic steps, warning that the government’s inability to curb insecurity and terrorism would undermine efforts to achieve economic development.

In a chat with LEADERSHIP Sunday, the assistant general secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Chris Onyeka, lamented the deprivation that the Nigerian working class has been subjected to due to terrorist activities.

“Trump did not plan to invade Nigeria but his plan is to help eradicate terrorism which is making movements impossible nowadays. As no nation can witness progress in the midst of conflicts whereby Nigerian working class, be they farmers in their farmlands, traders in market places or office workers have no more freedom to move along the roads without being kidnapped, if Trump can help, so let it be as those who are benefiting from insecurity and their sponsors are enjoying it thereby reducing patriotism to zero, it will be a welcomed development,” he said.

On his part, the president of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Senior Staff Association (FOBTOB), Comrade Jimoh Oyibo said, “For me, since our security apparatus does not have what it takes to defeat these criminal elements in the country, the world security watchdog (the US) wants to assist in that regard honestly, I subscribe to it.

“However, it should not end there. Their sponsors should be identified, extradited to the United States for criminal prosecution.”

Another respondent, the president of the National Union of Food, Beverages and Tobacco Employees (NUFBTE), Comrade Ibrahim Garba, said, “Tinubu should deploy a diplomatic approach to resolve the issues. To Nigerians, we have to pray for peace to reign in Nigeria because it is in the presence of peace that everything will go as expected.”

Garba said, “The invasion of Nigeria by America was a long plan even before Trump’s administration. The intention to do that has to do with the rich mineral resources God bless Nigeria, Nothing more or less.”

Likewise, the general secretary of Iron and Steel Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ISSSAN), Comrade John Odigie, said, “To me, I think this should be a wake-up call to the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of Tinubu to protect all Nigerians, be you Christians or Muslims.”

“The ugly scenario of insecurity in the country has attracted the world’s attention, especially the US, this is a shame and public embarrassment,” he said.
