The Labour Party has announced a rescheduling of its 2027 primary elections, moving all contests to Saturday, May 30, 2026, instead of the previously fixed dates of May 27 and May 29.

The decision was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa.

According to the statement, the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly primaries earlier scheduled for May 27, alongside the presidential and National Assembly primaries fixed for May 29, will now be conducted simultaneously on the new date.

The party said the adjustment became necessary due to a clash with two significant national events.

It explained that May 27 coincides with the 2026 Eid el-Kabir celebration, while May 29 marks the third anniversary of the inauguration of elected public office holders nationwide.

The Labour Party said it considered the religious significance of Eid el-Kabir and the national importance of Democracy Day anniversary in arriving at the new timetable.

According to the party, the unified date would allow members, aspirants, supporters and Nigerians at large to fully participate in the national and religious observances.

The party also expressed regret over any inconvenience the change may cause, appealing for understanding and cooperation from stakeholders.
