Labour Party Suspends 11 Nasarawa Officials For Alleged Anti-party Activities

The Labour Party (LP) in Nasarawa State has suspension 11 of its officials for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities in the just concluded governorship and state house of assembly elections in the state.

The notice of the suspension of affected officials was contained in a statement signed by the party’s chairman and assistant secretary, Mr Alex Emmanuel, party state chairman Mr Ashime Benjamin respect, on Wednesday in Lafia.

The statement noted that the suspended executive members of the party included officials from both at the state and local government levels who were involved in ant-party in the just concluded governorship.

They include Dahiru Abubakar, women leader, Hajara Dalhatu, treasurer Musa Doma, Lafia local government area party chairman, Muhammad Aliyu.

Others are chairman of the party in LGAs, Kurah Tente, Keffi LGA, Ashefo Jubrin, Obi, Promise Ezekiel, Akwanga, Muhammad Aruwa, Karu LGA, Abdullahi Eya, Nasarawa LGA, Abdulrahaman Kasimu, Awe, and Achuku Ibrahim, Nassarawa Eggon LGA.

 

The statement alleged that the said officials endorsed certain political party in the just concluded governorship election without a recourse to the leadership and thereby ridiculing the the party.

 

The statement said the suspension was done in conjunction with the national body of the party to curtail future occurrence.

“With reference to a complain letter to the national body of LP dated 24/3/2023 on the misconduct of some party state and local government executive members and the response received.

 

“We wish to bring to your notice that the suspended members have gone contrary to the party’s constitution of Article 19 part ‘B’ and number 2 that stipulates disciplinary measure on anti-party that lead to embarrassment, contempt, ridicule of the party,” he said.

 

Governorship candidate of the party, Joseph Ewuga had stepped down and declared his support for Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, David Ombugadu.

 

“In the build up to the governorship election, our party governorship candidate Joseph Ewuga stepped down for PDP governorship candidate and he informed the party and we communicate same to the national body of our great party,” he said.

 

The statement said a five-man committee has been constituted with a two weeks’ timeframe to investigate the suspended members’ activities, saying if found guilty discipline action would be taken against them accordingly.
