Over 130 participants took to the streets of Lekki, Lagos, for the fifth edition of the 7Km Run/Walk, an event dedicated to fitness and wellness. Organised by “I am Alive and Thankful” in collaboration with a passionate committee of friends, this year’s theme was “Accountability Walk/Run.”

Everyone emerged a winner on Saturday as participants ran and walked through the streets, with the event commencing and concluding at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Lekki. While the focus was not on competition, outstanding performances were recognised, with Samson Ukpa and Thomas Blessing taking home prizes for the male and female categories, respectively.

Additionally, the youngest participant, two-year-old Speranza Williams, and the oldest, 62-year-old Mr Edobor, each received a cash prize of N250,000.

Participant Apewe shared, “I haven’t exercised in about three months. It’s refreshing to be active and meet people from various backgrounds. I had a great time, and I would do this again. Fitness isn’t just about being slim; it encompasses mental and physical well-being. It’s about mindset. Participating occasionally is encouraging; age should never be a barrier to exercise.”

Ghanaian participant Jane expressed her excitement about being part of the event from start to finish. “Good health is invaluable. I enjoyed myself far more than I anticipated, even though I chose to walk the entire distance. My hope for future events is to extend our distance from 7km to 10km, so we can keep progressing.”

Onome Obruthe, one of the organisers, rated the event as “excellent,” noting the impressive turnout. “We achieved our target and are committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle where participants can run or walk at their own pace.
