Lagos, Abuja Airports Scale ICAO Security Audit

The Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja have scaled through the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Security Audit Programme the continuous Monitoring Approach (USAP-CMA).

Auditors of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Security Audit Programme the continuous Monitoring Approach (USAP-CMA) of Nigeria have 

The  Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), which made this known, said  the ICAO team leader, Callum Vine, commended the country for its robust policies and agencies with clear mandates on airport security.

 Vine said Nigeria was a success and scored well in most of the key indicators and acknowledged the speed with which the personnel dealt with identified deficiencies without complaints, according to a statement by FAAN director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah.

He said, the full report of the audit would be made available to Nigeria by ICAO within 60 days, after which there will be 30 days for the country to make comments.

The ICAO team leader added that after this, the country will be expected to file its plan to meet compliance with the organisation.

In her response at the debriefing, the managing director, FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, said the Authority would use the results of the audit as a roadmap for continuous improvement in the services it renders to airport users and stakeholders. 

She urged all stakeholders to collaborate closely, share best practices, and remain vigilant in upholding the highest standards of security in the Nigerian aviation industry. 

Mrs. Kuku thanked all government agencies, security bodies, government institutions, and heads of aviation agencies for their contributions to this incredible achievement.

The USAP CMA which ran for two weeks terminated on the 22nd March, 2024 and covered the following areas: Inflight Security (IFS), Passenger and Baggage Security (PAX), Acts of Unlawful Interference (AUI), Facilitation (FAL), Legislation (LEG), Training (TRG), Quality Control Function (QCF), Operations (OPS) and Cargo, Mail and Catering (CGO).

Present at the debrief were the permanent secretary, Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace; Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, who represented the minister and the acting director general, Nigeria Civil Aviation (NCAA), Captain Chris Najomo.
