Lagos Animator Uzoma Dunkwu Earns Emmy Recognition For Marvel Series

Nigerian animation artist Uzoma Dunkwu has added an Emmy Award to his growing list of international achievements after receiving recognition for his character design work on Marvel Animation’s Eyes of Wakanda.

Dunkwu was named the winner of Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation for Character Design for the episode “Into the Lion’s Den” of the Disney+ series.

The Television Academy included him among the winners of its 2026 juried Emmy awards. Unlike competitive categories in which nominees compete for a vote-based award, juried honours are decided by panels of industry professionals who determine whether one or more recipients merit recognition.

The award places Dunkwu among a select group of animation professionals recognised for individual creative contributions to television animation this year.

Based in Lagos, Dunkwu has built a career spanning visual development, character design, animation direction and education, while working on projects for major international entertainment companies.

His involvement with Eyes of Wakanda began early in the production process. According to his portfolio, he developed initial concepts for several characters and later refined and contributed to designs across the four-episode series.

Dunkwu has described the Marvel project as a particularly fulfilling experience, having worked on character designs that ultimately made it into the finished production.

The Emmy recognition adds another major milestone to his career and highlights the growing international reach of Nigerian talent in animation and visual storytelling.
