Lagos State government has restated the current administration’s commitment to investing in infrastructure to lay a solid foundation for economic growth and prosperity of the state.
Special adviser to the governor on Infrastructure, Engineer Olufemi Daramola stated this yesterday while handing over the newly built Marine Police Station to the Nigeria Police in Epe.
He said the development of infrastructure in Epe and its environs has become necessary because the town is presently witnessing an influx of people and increased traffic volume as a result of industrial and commercial growth arising from the development of the Dangote Oil Refinery, Air and Sea ports as well as industries within the Lekki Free Trade Zone.
Daramola who was represented by the permanent secretary, Engineer Ayodele Somide said the handing over is to enable the state government to complete Segment 5 of the project spanning Marina-Obafemi Awolowo Road – Epe LGA Junction.
According to him, it was a single carriageway with a length of 1.14km and an average width of 8m comprising a portion converted to a dual carriageway and the incorporation of an additional single carriageway (average width of 8m) to the existing carriage on the Marina-Awolowo Road – Epe LGA Junction into a dual carriageway with a length of 1.52km and an average width of 19m.
Daramola added that the expansion of Segment 5A (Epe-Marina Road) requires the redesign of the existing vertical and horizontal curves on the road alignment. This, according to him, necessitated the relocation of the existing Epe Marine Police and parts of some other structures on the new road alignment.
The representative of the contractor, Cranberg Construction Limited, Fady Bourjely said the police station in Marina-Epe has been handed over to the government.
“The implication is that we can continue the work. What is holding us back now is for the officers to shift to the new building so that we can continue as fast as possible.”
