Lagos Govt Assesses Resilience Strategy To Sustain Development Trajectory

Lagos State government on Tuesday assembled critical stakeholders across various sectors to assess its resilient strategy in order to sustain its development trajectory.

In his address at the Year 2024 Lagos Resilience Forum,   with the theme: Leveraging Resilience For Lagos’ Development Trajectory the state’s commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget,  Mr. Ope George said the forum is an all-inclusive and collaborative engagement of diverse resilience building stakeholders across  various sectors, adding that it was convened to reassess the state’s  resilience building efforts,  with a view to improving the resilience of the state.

According to him, through such a forum there will be discovery of new opportunities for growth and adaptation, integration of resilience thinking into statewide operations, and the amplification of resilience knowledge and innovations for sustainable growth.

“In line with these, the Year 2024 Lagos Resilience Forum is set to achieve the following objectives:

Identification of new opportunities to be integrated into the State’s resilience agenda, identification of the new conversations on emerging shocks, stresses and other challenges impacting the state, promotion of the application of a resilience lens to  state- wide activity; dissemination of resilience learning at a state-wide level.

“The Forum will focus on the economic resilience of Lagos as a global city, the economic resilience of the State in the light of global recession and the youth bulge, how the state can leverage international partnerships, the Socio-environmental resilience of Lagos as a sustainable city, the resilience of the people of Lagos.

“The vision for a Resilient Lagos, i.e an innovative, inclusive and prosperous city that leverages the appropriate governance and the infrastructure mechanisms to empower its people thrive, adapt and grow sustainably  was developed through a comprehensive process;  involving the ideas and perspectives of various stakeholders including academia, Civil Society Organizations, Government Agencies, Local Government Entities, Local Communities and Business Organisations, among others .

“The implementation of resilience building initiatives and evaluation of the same, for better and improved performance, therefore require shared responsibility and continued partnership of various resilience building stakeholders; which of course is the purpose of our gathering here today.”
