Lagos Group Cautions On Outcome Of APC Primary Election Results

Following the allegation by an aspirant over the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives, Kosofe Constituency primary election, which produced Major Dele Oshinowo as the winner on Saturday, a coalition of civil society organisations in Kosofe local government area has said any grievance should be addressed through party mechanism or the court of competent jurisdiction and not self-help.

The convener of the Centre for Human and Socio-economic Rights, Comrade Alex Omotehinse, in a statement, explained that Oshinowo was announced the winner by the designated returning officer, adding that the incumbent, Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, claimed the election did not hold.

The coalition, therefore, considered it imperative to caution against any actions or narratives that may overheat the polity or threaten the peace and stability of Kosofe and, by extension, Lagos State.

Omotehinde noted that, according to the returning officer’s announcement, four aspirants contested the primary election: Oshinowo, who gathered 18,614 votes; Yetunde Arobieke, 7,389; Remi Odunsi and Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, with 5,726 and 5,450 votes, respectively.

However, the Coalition notes the contradictory position emanating from the camp of the incumbent member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Mrs Kafilat Ogbara, which initially claimed victory and has subsequently asserted that the election did not hold.

They noted that the inconsistency is both troubling and capable of generating confusion, tension, and unnecessary political heat within the Kosofe Federal constituency.
