The Lagos State Government has arrested a woman and several others for defecating in public in Lagos Island part of the State.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, shared the footage on his X account on Tuesday.

He explained that the Anti-Open Defecation Squad carried out an early morning patrol at Ebute Ero, Lagos Island, to stop open defecation and other environmental offences.

Wahab said the surveillance was part of ongoing efforts to enforce sanitation laws, protect public health, and uphold the dignity of communities. He stressed that open defecation is not only an environmental issue but also a serious health risk that will not be tolerated.

He added that the government will continue to monitor key areas, strengthen enforcement, and work with stakeholders to ensure proper use of public toilets. According to him, keeping Lagos clean and healthy is a shared responsibility.
