The Lagos State government has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing its development through the robust implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Special Adviser to the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on SDG, Dr Oreoluwa Finnih, said this at a press conference to inform the general public on the inaugural Lagos Sustainability Summit said the state government is also determined to address environmental challenges and other issues bordering on actualisation through the SDGs.
Harping on the summit with the theme “Building a Resilient and Sustainable Lagos: Collaborative Approaches for Environmental Protection Safety,” Finnih said the one-day programme, which will be held on September 12, will chart a sustainable course for Lagos to emerge as a model for sustainable urban development, characterised by a harmonious balance between social equity, economic prosperity, and environmental stewardship.
According to her, the Lagos State government is committed to taking decisive action to build a more resilient, sustainable environment and equitable and prosperous city while championing ethical business practices that will have a social impact on residents and the generation yet unborn.
The governor’s aide disclosed that the summit is being organised by the Office of Sustainable Development Goals (OSDG) in partnership with the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency and the Lagos State Safety Commission.
“The Lagos State Sustainability Summit is a testament to our collective resolve. It is a landmark event from critical agencies’ collaborative efforts: the Lagos State Office of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Lagos State Safety Commission, and the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency.
“Together, we have realised that the future we aspire to is not just a dream but a responsibility that demands our unwavering commitment and our most innovative ideas”, she said.
Corroborating Finnih, the Director General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, said the summit would bring together a diverse range of stakeholders, governmental bodies, private sector leaders, civil society organisations, and international partners to engage in meaningful dialogue, share insights, and collaborate on innovative solutions to address critical sustainability challenges and enhance safety measures across the state.
