The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development has conducted a one-day sensitisation programme on digital security for students in Education District II, reinforcing efforts to promote safe and responsible use of technology among young people.

The initiative, according to a statement released on Sunday by the Ministry, was designed to equip students with essential skills, values, and emotional strength required to navigate the online space confidently and responsibly.

The programme took place at Oriwu Senior Model College in Ikorodu.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Youth, Mobolaji Ogunlende, stressed that the state’s smart city vision must be matched with deliberate investment in youth development.

He noted that building a technologically advanced Lagos required empowering young people with the knowledge and discipline to act as responsible digital citizens. Ogunlende described technology as a powerful tool that can either benefit or harm users, warning that ignorance has led many youths to fall victims to hackers and other online threats.

Also, addressing participants, the Permanent Secretary, Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, said the programme was aimed at preparing students to engage safely and confidently in the digital environment.

She emphasised that achieving the state’s developmental goals depends on raising a digitally secure and resilient generation. According to her, economic growth and social inclusion cannot be fully realised if young people are exposed to cyberbullying, exploitation, or other forms of online abuse.

Facilitators Lebura Olawale and Kayode Adewale delivered presentations under the theme, “Digital Resilience: Empowering Students for Safe and Responsible Online Engagement.”

During the sessions, students were educated on recognising online risks, protecting personal information and digital identities, reporting cyberbullying, and developing the emotional resilience needed to manage peer pressure and negative online experiences.
