The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mojisola Meranda said on Friday, that her security details have not been fully restored.
Hon. Meranda also denied rumours of her resignation and condemned the alleged invasion on Thursday of the Assembly by the former Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.
Regarding her security arrangements, Meranda informed journalists that her team, which should include 12 police officers and 4 operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), has been reduced to just four police officers.
“As you can see, I have my people with me, and God is with me. At present, I have only three or four policemen, while my security detail should comprise 12 policemen, four DSS operatives, and two anti-bomb squad personnel. I do not have that protection anymore,” she said.
Meranda characterised the purported sitting of the House presided over by Obasa on Thursday as a “show of shame.” She said, “In our job, a specific number is required to form a quorum. He is merely performing a drama if he claims to have presided over a sitting with only four members.”
She acknowledged that Obasa is still a member of the State Assembly and has the right to attend sitting, but she condemned the invasion and the breaking into her office, calling it a serious issue.
“We have not yet decided on our next actions, but when we do, I will let you know,” she stressed.
Speaking on the ongoing court case, Meranda said, “This is just the beginning, and as you saw, all parties were represented in court. I think we should allow the legal team to do their job.”
