LEADERSHIP gathered that the incident occurred on Friday night while the people were sleeping.

While confirming the incident on behalf of Kebbi State Police Command, the public relations officer, SP Nafi’u Abubakar, told journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday that the command lost officers during the gunbattle between the police and the terrorists in their move to kidnap or kill innocent people in the villages.

According to Abubakar, the commissioner of police, CP Bello Sani, while commending the bravery and sacrifices of the dead officers, has prayed for their gentle souls.

The commissioner also urged the residents of the communities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or groups to security personnel.

Governor Nasir Idris, on hearing about the unfortunate incident, suspended the scheduled APC stakeholders meeting due for Saturday and led government officials to the village, where he sympathised with the people over the attack.

The governor has promised to beef up security personnel in all the remote areas of the state to protect the lives and properties of the communities. He vowed to deal ruthlessly with informants who usually invited the bandits to attack innocent people in the villages.
