Mustapha Sule Lamido, son of former Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 general elections after securing a unanimous consensus endorsement across the state’s 27 local government areas.

Chairman of the electoral committee constituted by the PDP national headquarters, Barrister Isah Ahmed, announced Lamido’s emergence, declaring that he was returned unopposed following the withdrawal of all potential challengers from the race.

Ahmed said delegates from across the state affirmed Lamido’s candidacy through a voice vote supervised by the committee, describing the process as peaceful, transparent and in line with the party’s internal democratic procedures.

The consensus arrangement, which had the backing of key party stakeholders across Jigawa State, culminated in a smooth and uncontested primary exercise.
Jigawa State PDP Chairman, Babandi Ibrahim, congratulated Lamido and party members on what he described as a successful and hitch-free primary, commending supporters for maintaining order and unity throughout the process.

In his acceptance speech, Lamido described his emergence as a call to service and a renewed mandate to address what he termed worsening hardship, poor governance and lack of responsive leadership in the state.
“We are not here to lament; we are here to fix it,” he declared.

He said the consensus decision reflected the unity and collective resolve of the party, but noted that the greater challenge lies ahead in delivering purposeful leadership and rebuilding public confidence in governance.

Lamido pledged to prioritise youth empowerment, education, healthcare, economic development and institutional reforms if elected governor in 2027.

According to him, his ambition represents “a collective mission to rescue, rebuild and reposition Jigawa State.”

He also urged PDP members and supporters to remain united ahead of the general elections, stressing that victory would depend on discipline, cohesion and commitment to the party’s shared vision.

“To the people of Jigawa, I hear you, I see you and I feel your pain. Give me the opportunity to serve you,” he said.

The PDP governorship candidate further appreciated the party’s national and state leadership for ensuring a peaceful primary process and called on supporters to sustain the momentum as preparations begin for the 2027 governorship contest.
