The last surviving child of Ooni Ademiluyi Ajagun, the 48th Ooni of Ife, Princess Rafatu Awofisayo, has died at the age of 102.

The current Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has paid glowing tribute to the deceased, describing her passing as the end of a remarkable era.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ile-Ife, Osun State, by the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, Mr Moses Olafare.

According to the monarch, the late Princess Awofisayo lived a fulfilled life worthy of celebration rather than mourning, having devoted more than a century to the service of humanity, faith, and the preservation of Yoruba royal heritage.

Reflecting on her royal lineage, the Ooni said the deceased upheld the legacy of her father, Ooni Ademiluyi Ajagun, with dignity and pride.

He described her as a custodian of culture who preserved the traditions and values of the Oodua race with exceptional grace.

Oba Ogunwusi further praised her humility, wisdom, and motherly love, saying she nurtured generations and offered guidance to many, earning widespread respect across religious and cultural divides.

He also highlighted her pivotal role as the Iya Adinni of Ifeland, where she stood as a pillar within the Muslim community.

The monarch commended her unwavering commitment to the growth of Islam, noting that her contributions helped foster unity, discipline, and compassion among adherents in Ile-Ife and beyond.

“Mama was more than a royal figure; she was a spiritual beacon and a bridge between generations, whose life reflected divine grace and purpose,” he said.

The Ooni urged the people of Ifeland and beyond to honour her memory by living purposeful lives rooted in service, unity, and faith, stressing that her 102 years on earth were a testament to a richly blessed life.

He also prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and expressed confidence that her legacy would continue to inspire generations to come.
