One of the popular faces in skits – the laughing boy, also known as Funny Albert, a Ghanaian, is said to have purchased a new house for his mother.
‎
‎In a grass-to-grace story, the mother, Rosina, gave an account of how they struggled to live and how Albert’s schooling was affected.
‎
‎Now the story has changed, thanks to the Internet. He is currently around 10 years old. He was 7 when the video first went viral in 2023.
‎
‎Funny Albert’s mother says, “Before my son went viral, we used to stay in a poor public house, where it was difficult for us to eat or even pay our rent.
‎
‎”Most days my son and his siblings don’t go to school, because we are owing school fees. Things used to be very difficult for us, but today, just 1 laughing video has changed our lives.
‎
‎”From staying in an uncompleted building to now being a house owner, all thanks to my son Albert.”
‎
‎Funny Albert, whose real name is Albert Ofosu Nketia, is a young Ghanaian boy who became a global internet sensation. He is best known for the viral “crying and laughing” meme that has taken over social media platforms like TikTok, WhatsApp, and X (Twitter).
‎
‎The video that made him famous shows  Albert crying intensely before suddenly transitioning into a wide, infectious laugh.
‎
‎The genesis of the infectious laugh, according to his mother, Rosina, was on a Saturday at their home in Kumasi. Albert had asked for yams for lunch, but his mother was busy washing clothes and gave him plantains instead.
‎
‎He started crying out of disappointment, but his grandmother began singing a funny song to soothe him. The transition from his “yam-induced” tears to genuine laughter was caught on camera by his uncle.
‎
‎His face, as the meme king, is used globally to represent mood swings, “fake” crying, or finding joy in disappointing situations.
‎
‎Funny Albert has received significant love from the Nigerian content creation community, with many influencers using his clips to spice up their comedy skits.
‎
He remains one of Ghana’s most recognisable faces online, proving that sometimes, even a disagreement over yams and plantains can turn someone into a star!
