Law Firm Opens Office In Angola

Africa Law Practice International Group (ALPi Group) has opened a new office in Luanda, Angola, marking its first entry into a Lusophone African jurisdiction.

Commenting on the recent development in Lagos, Chairman of ALPi Group, Mr Olasupo Shasore, SAN, stated that the firm’s entry into Angola was a strategic step aligned with its long-term vision of building a Pan-African legal platform that reflects Africa’s linguistic and legal diversity. He described Angola as central to the continent’s energy, infrastructure and trade prospects.

Also speaking, Ms Nana Adjoa Hackman, Managing Partner of Africa Legal Associates (ALPi Ghana), said the expansion into Lusophone Africa completed an essential phase of the Group’s continental strategy, positioning ALPi to advise better investors, governments and institutions operating across Africa under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Welcoming the firm’s entry, Mr Mário Gomes of Grupo Simples, an Angolan oil and gas services company and a client of ALPi Angola, said the firm’s presence would support Angolan companies seeking to expand intra-African trade, while also assisting foreign companies looking to do business in Angola and neighbouring countries.

ALPi Group stated that Angola’s status as one of Africa’s largest economies, a significant energy and minerals jurisdiction, and a gateway linking Southern, Central, and Lusophone Africa informed its decision to establish operations in the country. The firm noted that Angola’s ongoing economic liberalisation and efforts to attract foreign direct investment are driving demand for cross-border legal advisory services.

The Angola launch follows recent recognition of ALPi Group’s work across the continent. In 2025, ALP NG & Co, the Group’s Nigerian member firm, was named Pan-African Business Law Firm of the Year at the BusinessDay Legal Awards. ALPi practitioners were also recognised in the 2025 IFLR1000 rankings.

With the addition of Angola, ALPi Group now operates in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Côte d’Ivoire, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Namibia, Mauritius and Angola, and maintains a representative office in Guyana.

The new office, ALPi Angola, was established in partnership with Angolan lawyers and represents a further expansion of the firm’s Pan-African footprint, following its operations across Anglophone Africa and the OHADA Francophone zone.

ALPi Angola disclosed that it will operate as a full-service corporate and commercial law firm, providing legal services in areas including cross-border trade, market entry advisory, international transactions, banking and finance, oil and gas, mining, telecommunications and fintech, real estate, trust law, and advisory services to embassies, diplomatic missions and foreign investors.
